Did you know that nearly 1 out of every 4 Elmira residents lives in poverty

Yet, the Mayor says they are doing everything possible to reduce the tax burden; but it’s only made it worse.

Another property tax increase was approved by City Council in February 2023, raising the cost of living for both homeowners and renters.

Nan Moss voted “YES” on that budget, which included a raise for herself, the Mayor, and all City Council members.

It’s been 8 years of this. Does Nan Moss really deserve another term?

You deserve to feel safe in the community you live, work, and play in. Yet, many of the residents I talk to state that they do not feel safe in their neighborhoods.

Our police officers are allowed to live as far as 60 miles away from Elmira, and yet, they still draw a paycheck from the taxpayers here. I believe living amongst the people you serve makes everyone more accountable.

I aim to push for reinstating the requirement that EPD officers reside in Chemung County

Additionally, I will vote against further funding for Flock license plate scanners, which were installed without proper public scrutiny and paid for by ARP funds, which expire in 2025.

Law-abiding citizens should be free to live their lives without 24-hour police surveillance with virtually no accountability to the public and that could be used to target innocent people.

And when Flock camera funding runs out in 2025, guess who picks up the $125,000-per-year tab?

You.

Our City government has a responsibility to the people that elected them to serve.

It’s time to properly address our residents’ concerns rather than just acknowledging they have them.

Residents should be made aware of public hearings and other Council activities on the City website and appropriate social media channels. Currently, many local businesses do not participate in the bidding process because projects are only announced in the classifieds of the local newspaper, which has a dwindling readership.

Elmira will prosper when we keep local money local.

Make your voice heard this November and hold your elected officials accountable.

I plan to spearhead an initiative to build a high-quality dog park that will attract dog lovers from all over the area to the Southside of Elmira.

Other cities – like Ithaca, Owego, and Painted Post – all have beautiful dog parks that outshine the small, off-leash area at Eldridge Park.

There is an incredible opportunity for dog parks at the parks located on West Hudson Street or Beecher Street.

By implementing and executing a strategic fundraising plan through sponsorships, signage sales, and donations, this can be done with as little public money as possible.

People who don’t own dogs benefit from dog parks too. Barking dogs are a neighborhood nuisance due to lack of exercise. Creating a place for them to run is a win-win for everyone.
