Americans have been celebrating this long weekend before July even started. Ask them what they are celebrating and most of them will answer FREEDOM!

Don’t get me wrong, I have a deep appreciation for what the vast majority believe America stands for. Many of you share with me the sense of responsibility to that ideal that so many of our ancestors have fought and died for. 

Now, take a few steps back and let’s examine this. July 4, 1776 is the day that is being commemorated. What happened on that day? In Philadelphia, PA, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence to announce the colonies’ separation from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Contrary to what we often read, the American colonists weren’t just fighting the British; they were overwhelmingly British themselves. The American Revolution was about treason.
